I know I said that I would be doing my next post on either Magic Mike or Savages but I watched a program on the telly that I really enjoyed and thought I would share it with you so here it is...
As a big carry on fan this program instantly caught my eye. Fantabulosa is dramatised version of Kenneth Williams life. You follow him from his young life as a boy to when they found him dead in his flat in Camden on the 15th April 1988. There is one main thing that annoyed me though. When his father died after taking poison they made out within this program that Kenneth went to see his father, when in matter of fact he didn't and on the night his father was proclaimed dead Kenneth went on stage and preformed like it was any other night. Due to this fact he was denied a visa to America as Scotland Yard had on record that Kenneth was a suspect in his fathers death ( I know this by reading the biographies about Kenneth Williams which are based on his journals) You may think reading this that is isn't a big deal but in my opinion it is. If they had shown him not going to the hospital to see his father it would have shown the audience how much he didn't like his homophobic father. It was shown that he disliked him but this would have just made it certain just how much, and be more true the the story of his life.
Other than that though it was very good Michael Sheen who played Kenneth was extremely good with the impression of him and his persona. You could relate to the character you felt pain and sadness when he did. Following him from Carry On films to doing Round the Horne and Just a minute ( radio shows that I grew up with as my parents had them on cassette you know before CD's) to his deterioration of health. I liked the ending as it was never known whether his death was an accident or suicide and they portrayed this point very well. Although it does steer more to the thought of suicide.
I personally love Kenneth Williams and this program was interesting and heart felt if you like Carry On and or Kenneth Williams check this out it is currently on BBC Iplayer.
Watch this space people as the review on either Magic Mike or Savages will be with you shortly!!
