Movies based on real people or true events

So I have decided to write about a few films that I have that are based on real events or real people.

Ray (2004)

This is a very touching story about the life and career of the legendary Ray Charles. with Jamie Foxx playing Ray I must admit he did an amazing job. Ray Charles changed Rhythm and Blues and  Jazz mainstream for the first time, thanks to his efforts this music became respectable universally. this movie looks deep into his relationships his drug abuse and of course his music career.

With good music and a very deep script this film is well worth the watch.

Brassed off  (1996)

This is the story of Grimley colliery brass band (Grimthrope colliery brass band) when the mining pits were fighting to stay open. It is funny but also a tear jerker as you go through the struggles of what the miners had to face, and due to the closing of the mines what the band itself had to go through. With in my opinion an award winning performance from Pete Postlethwaite (RIP). This is a film about true Britain up North back then and one of my favourite British movies.

Fargo (1996)

Ok so from people you feel sorry for to one guy that deserved everything he got. This a a story about a man that tries to black mail his Father in-law by having his own wife kidnapped by two career criminals. But of course everything goes extremely wrong. The events show within this movie happened in Minnesota in 1987. Of course for respect they changed names. It is Directed and Produced by the Coen brother and has won 5 different award 2 of them for Best Screenplay. With great acting from William.H.Macy (Mystery men, Magnolia and Jurassic Park) Steve Buscemi (Reservoir Dogs, Big Lebowski and Monster's INC) and Frances McDormand ( Raising Arizona, Almost Famous and Burn after reading). This film is brilliant and well worth the watch.

The Boat that Rocked (2009)

So for those of you that don't know this is based on Pirate Radio in the 1960's. For those of you that don't know about pirate radio they were based in the north sea where they played rock n roll 24 hours a day in a time where it wasn't aloud to be played on radio stations in land ( If you ain't old enough to remember the 60's ask your parents about it). With an awesome soundtrack from that era that is good enough to get anyone singing ( and perhaps dancing which I have been known to do) This film is full of amazing Actors and Actresses that people from all era's should recognise. This film is very funny with some of course serious bits that are emotional. This film is great if you are in a mad or sad mood and need cheering up and it is also a film you can enjoy with your parents. So come on people give it a try.

So there are 4 films based on true stories, of course there are many many more that I could have wrote about for example Cool Runnings, Coach Carter, Pursuit of happyness, Erin Brockovich, Take the lead, 8 mile, Titanic and of course Zulu with still many I haven't mentioned. I may write about them at a later date who knows but for now watch this space and take care.

Top Cat the movie 2012

Top Cat the movie is out in 3D on your screens this Friday. Unfortunately though it hasn't been given the best ratings in the world scoring only 5.3/10 by IMDB. Movie reviewers such as Scott Davis from Flickering Myths that gave the movie 1 star  ( http://www.flickeringmyth.com ) and Jeff Galasso from londonfilmfanatiq (http://londonfilmfanatiq.com) gave it only 3 stars. Saying that the movie is going to be in the list of worst movies brought out this year.

According to the reviews the movie is bad from start to finish with appalling 3D which is likely to give anyone a headache and the animation is classed and uninspired and dull. One even went as far as the say that the original creators the great Hanna Barbera productions Ltd,( The Flinstones )  would turn in there graves at the sight of this movie. Saying the TC is very poorly done and his side kicks should have there own movie as they are the only slightly interesting parts within the flick.

So the story initials a new police man on the block, that is less than pleased with the way Officer Dibble's deals with the TC and his gang with their scams. The film adds new characters (much to many peoples disappointment)  one of which is Trixie the love interest of TC. I mean why? he never needed one before why bring one in now! But anyway I digress, TC/ Giswald/ Lou Strickland/ Choo choo/ Brain and Big Gus are all voiced by Jason Harris in the English version of this movie, of whom you may have heard of from Despicable Me. Which from watching the trailer appears to actually gets TC's voice pretty much right.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xaoG2yjP4E

Here is the trailer for you to make up your own opinions.

So for now that it is from me. I will be watching the film so I can of course make up my own opinions about the movie( but from watching the trailer it doesn't look good ) and I will get back to you all about what I made of it.

So watch this space and take care everyone.

Stranger than fiction

As you can tell this is Will Ferrell but not how you usually see him. His is a comedy but is a little more serious than his usual movies ( Blades of glory, Anchorman, Step Brothers ect) For those of you that haven't seen this movie it is about an IRS auditor called Harold Crick ( Will Ferrell) that is very OCD with his day to day routine. Until he starts hearing someone narrating his life of which no one else can hear.

It came out 6 years ago now and is still one of my all time Will Ferrell films, it shows him in a new light which most people hadn't seen before this movie. He is a lot calmer but does not for one second loose his funny side because of it. He is joined by other well known actors and actresses for example Dustin Hoffman ( The story of a murdered, Hook, Toosie, The Graduate and Rainman) , Emma Thompson ( Love actually, The boat that rocked and Nanny McPhee) and Maggie Gyllenhaal ( Donnie Darko, The Dark knight and 40 days and 40 night) all of whom play very convincing roles within the film. It is completely set in Chicago which I like as sometimes when they decide to film all over the place and it is just meant to be in one place, it can be rather obvious at time. It is Directed by Marc Forster who I have mentioned in a previous blog as he is directing WWZ which is to be released next year.

When I was watching it with my other half he made it known to me that if the book that was been written in the film was in fact real it would be a really rubbish book. ( which made me giggle) but it is everything else in the movie that makes this film so good and I strongly advise people that haven't seen it to watch it.

When Harry met Sally

So I have just been watching When Harry met Sally which before I get into what I know is going to be a rant I do actually like this movie it is funny and a fun film to watch. BUT oh my god it does tend to get annoying, I mean you go through the whole relationship of them not liking each other and then becoming friends and the entire time thinking to yourself will you just kiss or go out already. I mean even when they apparently don't like each other there is sexual tension between them. It take something like 7 years for anything to happen. So you go through the first half of the movie going god you tell each other everything, you ring each other practically every night and you hang out with each other all the time. For god sake just kiss already or something. And then when they do finally kiss because she is all upset they end up having sex so there you have everything all in one go. Which then leads to them not talking because it was too "weird" and becoming two completely miserable people. GET OVER IT you are obviously perfect for each other just get on with it. So then for the rest of the movie is Harry trying to get Sally to talk to him and your just thinking for god sake Sally answer his calls he is been really sweet and well a little cringe worthy by leaving him singing on answering machines.

But I must admit when they do finally get together it is one of my favourite romance scenes in movies. It is a proper tear jerker. It is just annoying that it is so dragged out, and your literally shouting at the screen for them to get on with it. OK rant over, these are the reason why i like the movie, it is very funny for example it has one of the best fake orgasm scenes which is just laugh out loud funny especially the line after it where one of the people in the Cafe (  played by Meg Ryan's mother) says " I'll have what she's  having" just an epic moment which has been recognised by many film critics. It was nominated for Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best screenplay.

Overall the movie is really good and please don't let my opinion on it been too dragged out put you off watching this movie. I think people should definitely give it a go. It is the perfect girly night in movie.

Just a few good movies

hey everyone!

I have decided to just write about a few films from a couple of the genres to write about. I hope there are a few you may not have seen or heard of. I hope you enjoy!

The girl who leapt through time.

This is an anime film, and is one of my favourites. It is about a girl that is rather clumsy. She finds out that she has the ability to leap through time and starts using it to her advantage, soon to discover that it can lead to not exactly great results. It is directed by Mamoru Hosoda that is most known for the Digimon movies (Which he shouldn't be as this film is by far better than Digimon ). The main reasons I like this film are the script is entertaining and you can really connect with the main character. Also it is very pretty, and simplistic which I do like in anime, the style of it does remind me a little of Castle in the sky ( which is also a very good anime if you haven't seen it give it ago ) with its pale colouring in places and simple but effective back grounds. Of course like any time travel movie you can find faults in it but if you can put that to one side I am sure you will love this movie.

Chocolate

So as you probably see from the DVD cover this isn't the Johnny Depp movie. This is a martial arts movie about an autistic girl that tries to help her dying mother by finding the people that owe her money and of course they turn out to be gang members. As i tend to find with martial arts movies the story behind the action is not always the best ever but this does have its heart warming and heart breaking moments. But like all martial arts films you watch them for the kick arse moves and this film doesn't let you down. Jeeja Yanin that plays Zen the lead character is amazing for such a young girl. And of course she does all her own stunts which lead to awesome but very cringe and painful mess ups. Jeeja has some awesome skills like a trick she does with candy that look like m n m's that I have been trying to copy ever since ( watch the movie to find out what I mean) So yeah if you like martial arts and watching people kick the crap out of each other or even if you girl out there want to watch some real girl power then check this movie out.

Easy A

Emma Stone starring in Easy A and romance comedy about a girl that makes up a lie about sleeping with a guy in community college that soon blows out of per-portion. Loosely based on The scarlet letter by Nathaniel Hawthorn. I find that some romance comedies are full of obvious love story all the way through and it get rather tedious. That is one thing i like about this movie it isn't rubbing the love story in your face all the way through, granted it has small hints occasionally but nothing to much. It is a good film to watch if you just want to chill out in front of the tv, or if you are having a girls night in. And don't worry boys it can be enjoyed by you too, as Emma Stone is wearing very sexy clothing through out just make sure you don't get done my your girl friends as she does look stunning. But not only with the way she is dressed it is also funny and a film i really do think can be enjoyed by both men and women.

Clerks

This is a Comedy and the first ever film by Kevin Smith. It came out in 1994 and is in black and white. ( yes that is correct black and white) The reason being that in order to make he movie Kevin Smith had to sell his entire comic book collection and max out 8- 10 credit cards. So due to little funds couldn't afford a high tech colour video camera. If you are one of these people that dont particularly like black and white movie I can safely say that i have shown people like that this movie and they have still loved it just as much as me. So please don't let that stop you from giving this movie ago. This movie isn't action packed it is literately about a 2 guys that work in a convenience store one of which "isn't suppose to be their today" but it is laugh out loud funny and the script is very very well written. With great acting from Brain O' Halloran and Jeff Anderson and not to mention the first appearance of the very memorable Jay and Silent Bob. I assure you that if you haven't seen this movie you will very much enjoy it.

So there you have it there are a few movies that i think that you will enjoy :)

watch this space and see you all very soon.

Get the Gringo ( How I spent my summer vacation)

Hey everyone!

Ok so over the weekend I watched a film that to put is simply really shocked me. The reason is the lead is Mel Gibson! Yes the man that brought us rubbish films like What women want and The singing detective ( sorry if you like these films it is my personal opinion) But this Year he is back and in my opinion better than ever, this film is funny, action packed and has epic one liners, and believe it or not was written by the one and only Mel Gibson as well.

For those of you the haven't seen the trailers, or indeed watched the film yet as it is currently still been shown in some cinemas around the UK. This is the basic plot to the story, a career criminal (Mel Gibson) has just finished a job that has landed him with a lot of money. But he gets caught by Mexican police and sent to the roughest most tough prison in the state. Where he decides to try and get his money back while looking out for a 9 year old boy and his mother ( yes there is a 9 year old in prison it does get explained why) . This is a rated 15 due to strong violence, some drug use and the occasional sexual content. The film is still yet to be released in Italy 1st June, Portugal 7th, Denmark 14th, Argentina, Singapore and Hungary on the 21st June, Netherlands 12th July, Finland 20th and Norway 3rd August. So keep an eye out guys it is coming to screens near you very soon.

Ok so there are lots of different titles for this film, obviously because they are been released in some many different countries but for some reason they have a USA title and a UK one. Which I don't really get why seen as the USA name is more intriguing ( Get the Gringo), I mean How I spent my summer vacation just sounds like another Hangover movie or a ROM-COM which this film isn't either. The British title makes it sound boring and doesn't really make you want to see the film unless you see the movie poster which has Mel Gibson stood in front of a prison with a hand gun. Which kind of shows that the film isn't going to be a ROM-COM.  They should have stuck with the USA title for both countries in my opinion but that was up to them.

All in all this film is fast paced, funny ,written very well. Has good characters not so much character development but it is still interesting and a really good watch. I recommend this film to people that like pay-back type movies and enjoy a lot of gun fighting and a good car chase.

Top 10 Disney Films Part 2

Cool Runnings 1993
This film is one of my favourite live action Disney films of all time. It is funny and very well written so that everybody can enjoy it. With catchy lines that will stick in your head for years and will always make you laugh when you remember them ( well i do)  For those of you that haven't seen this, it is based on a true story about 4 Jamaican men that decide to start up their own bobsled team, and enter into the winter Olympics. It is a great story about discrimination and friendships. If you like funny and heart warming films this if perfect for you. With great acting from Leon, Doug E.Doug, Rawle D. Lewis, Malik Yoba and John Candy. It really is a funny family film that the kids will love and so will you. So check it out (you know you want to).

Beauty and the Beast 1991
Ok so anyone that doesn't know about this movie or parents that haven't show it to the children you need to, this is classic Disney and even more of a classic story. About the beauty within people and how you look on the outside shouldn't matter. The animation is very very good and the songs are catchy and well sung by the likes of Paige O'Hara, Robby Benson and Richard White. It is funny and every enjoyable to watch even in the re-release with the extra song (when where human again) which involves all the servants in the castle getting excited by the fact belle is there to break the spell. I liked the new addition as you get to look into the servants characters more finding out a bit more about them within this song. All in all this is one of my favourite movies by Disney and i'm sure it is for many other people too.

The Little Mermaid 1989
This animation is about a young mermaid that get fed up of been in the sea and longs to have feet and walk on land with everyone else. She makes a deal with a seahag named Ursula that takes her voice but gives her legs so she can walk on land. Unbeknown to Ariel, Ursula plans to get her own back on Ariel's father for banishing her. This film has loveable characters that if you witnessed when watching this at a young age will still love later on in life. The animation is done good and the songs are well written and preformed brilliantly. This film is fun, interesting and will keep kids quiet for hours, they will falling in love with the movie and so will you. I think everyone should at least watch this movie once in there lives and if you haven't already watched it i really recommend that you do.

Robin Hood 1973
So Robin Hood stole from the rich to give to the poor, a classic story in British culture. In the Disney film they have turned animals into humanoid charcters. Which symbolise the types of personality's the characters have. For example Robin Hood is a fox, as he is sneaky, quick and intelligent. I like the fact they have made the human characters animals as it get children to use there imagination. The songs in it have even influenced DJ's to speed up and release songs so end up been played on radio stations even if it did end up been one of the most annoying songs at that point you might remember it (the hamster song). But even so this film was still amazing to watch. The characters are enjoyable to watch and re-memorable, and for a Disney films there aint that many songs in it but the ones that are are still good.

Aristocats 1970
So watching aristocats now is always a pleasure. Seeing Disney at its best when they used to draw everything from scratch, you can see watching this movie all the work that went into it. When watching it you can see all the individual lines that make up the animation. It really makes you appreciate the movie a whole lot more. It has great characters from Thomas O' Malley , Edgar and Uncle Waldo. This film will make you laugh and enjoy the story, of Duchess and the kittens having to find their way home after been kidnapped. The songs are well composed and very catchy i will admit they they do tend to get stuck in your head for a while. This film if one of my favourites and im sure it is for many of you out there too.

So that concludes my top 10 disney films. Im sorry for the massive gap between them. I hope i have been some help in helping you decided which disney to show your kids or just check out for yourselves. I will be back very soon with some more reviews. Keep watching this space people and take care!

My top 10 Disney films Part 1

Hello again!!

I'm going to talk about my favourite Disney movies, as I couldn't choose which ones of my choices I actually thought was my all time favourite. I have decided to simply put them in order of Year of release starting with the newest. I hope you like the ones I have chosen and please feel free to tell me your favourites. :)

Alice and Wonderland 2010
So I know I have had rants about pointless Sequels, but this isn't one of them. Alice and Wonderland is the second of two books. So it has a right to be made. And frankly I think Tim Burton did an amazing job, it was sinister, magical and really caught the essence of what the world of Wonderland should be like. Not to mention the amazing casting. With the likes of Johnny Depp, Stephen Fry, Ann Hatherway, Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter and Barbara Windsor. All in all I love this movie with the mixture of live action and animation. It is a great family movie and if you haven't had chance to watch it I really would consider giving it a go, although not in 3D as I feel that it wasn't really needed, without it is way better.

Howl's moving castle 2004
I know what you are thinking it isn't Disney but in fact it was released in America  by Disney as an English dubbed, done by Pixar's Peter Docter. After it had been released in Japan and Disney released it in other countries the year after. Although I do like the Japanese version and really don't have a problem with watching subtitles. The English dub is still just as good if not a little bit better as you don't have to pay attention to the subtitles and can watch the amazing animation that the Japanese did, it really is a beautifully done film. For those of you that have never seen either version here is a brief description, A young women (Sophie ) is cursed by a witch into an old body. She sets out to seek a fortune and comes across a weird moving castle run by a magician ( Hauru) who may just be able to break the curse and turn her to her true form. I encourage people to give this film a go. :)

Pocahontas 1995
Before I go on about why I like this film, I do have one problem with it. The only thing that does annoy me about this movie is John Smith is voice acted by Mel Gibson who of course is American and doesn't even put on a English accent he stays America, and John Smith is English and should there for have an English accent. Considering that in this film America hasn't even really been discovered yet. Well not enough for them to bring an American back to England to go all the way back there. So yes that was bad casting by Disney if they couldn't find anyone to even put on an English accent. But apart from that the film is brilliant, it has catchy songs that get stuck in your head. The animation and the way it is put together is really good. It has comedic characters that end up becoming favourites. With both adults and kids, making it a film to enjoy with the whole family. If you haven't seen this film and you have kids, give it a go I guarantee that you and your children will enjoy watching it together.

Goofy Movie 1995
This film is classic Disney. Everyone should know who Goofy is and if you don't you need to see this movie. It has catchy tunes by Tevin Campbell who was all ready a big RNB singer before he did this. And although he probably hates it is most well known for the songs from this movie. It is funny and slapstick Disney with everything Goofy tries to do going wrong some how which makes you love the character even more. For those of you that don't know the movie, it is about Goofy and his son Max. Max is in high school and in love with a Girl, when he tries to impress her it goes wrong and ends up in the Headmasters office. Making Goofy think he is going to end up a delinquent, and resulting in him taking Max on a fishing trip. But Max has  made plans with the love of his life and lies as to why he can't be there. I'm not going to say anymore as it will spoil it for those of you that haven't seen it but it really is worth a watch if  you like Disney and catchy, up beat tunes.

Lion King 1994
Now everyone will have at least heard of the Lion King it was a big step for Disney, with is been the first of there films to do something that no other Disney has ever done. ( i'm not going to say just in case some of you haven't watched it.) Also it was one of the first to actually bring in the animal they are drawing into the studio so they could get the real movements into there drawings. ( Yes they actually had a fully grown lion and a cub in there studio) and credit to them. They drawings are pretty believable and because of that make it a very enjoyable and pretty film to watch. It has good music from Hanz Zimmer and Elton John. Which really gets you into the movie and lots of funny parts to keep you laughing. If you haven't seen this movie seriously watch it you won't regret it.

These are my first 5 I will be carrying on as soon as I can. Hope you enjoyed them and please comment and watch this space. :)

Movies of 2013 Part 2

Ok so last time I said I was going to continue with what other films of next Year I think might be good to watch . So here it goes here are 5 more films to look out for next year.

Hansel and Gretel- Witch Hunters

So this version of Hansel and Gretel is based 15 year after the original story of them been trapped in a gingerbread house. They team up into bounty hunters that track and kill witches from all over the world. Directed and Written by Tommy Wirkola, I think this will be an ok film. The concept is good and original (as far as I know) the casting looks interesting, Jeremy Renner will be playing Hansel. For those of you that don't recognise the name he played Hawkeye in this years Avengers Assemble, Thor and 28 weeks later. Gemma Arterton will be playing Gretel. You may know her from Prince of Persia, The Boat that Rocked and Tamara Drewe. Based on there previous roles it is going to be a lot different but they should be able to pull it off as along as the script is well written. Although then rating has not yet been given to the movie, it going to be a Action/Horror so personally I'm hoping for at least a 15. It will be released in the UK on the 13th March so keep your eyes out.

Me and my shadow

This is going to be one of the only animation's coming out that isn't going to be a sequel. Me and my shadow is about a shadow that gets very frustrated with his life. As the person that he follows Stanley is the most boring person on the planet as his shadow describes. So he decides to make things more interesting by taking control of Stanley. The Shadow's voice is going to be played by Bill Hader, from films such as Superbad, Pineapple express and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I personally find him very funny doing animation roles such as Flint from Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs and I'm looking forward to getting the chance to watch this film. I hope you all do to. Unfortunately they haven't given a date for the release in the UK yet. But it is out in the USA 8th November. So go and see this film if you want a laugh and enjoy animation. It will also be shown in 3D.

The Mortal Instrument

Based on the Trilogy by Cassandra Clare. (City of Bones, City of Ashes and City of Glass) This film is about a young teenage girl named Clary Fray, that goes in search of her mother after she has been taken away by an unknown creature. On here travels she finds out things about her past and bloodline that changes her life forever. For those of you that haven't read the books I will stop there to not give away any spoilers. It is directed by Harald Zwart and stars Lily Collins (Priest and Mirror,Mirror) playing Clary Fray. Again the film has not yet been given a UK release date but will be released in USA on 23rd August. If you like fantasy adventures with some romance then this is the film for you to check out next Year.

Robopocalype

Ok so the title of this film kind of speaks for itself. This film is set in the aftermath of a Robot uprising. Human race have created super intelligent computers and robots, but when one escapes called Archos, that will do anything in its path to preserve life, even if that means destroying the entire human race. All hell breaks lose and a group of humans decide to fight back against them. It is been directed by Steven Spielberg and is based on the novel by Daniel H Wilson. Unfortunately there are no references as to who will be starring in the upcoming movie. But will be released in the UK 3rd July. So if you like Action and Si-fi then go see this film.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again

I know the first half has not come out yet and I will say that I am very much looking forward to them both. I have been talking to people about the fact that it is been made in to two parts. A lot have said that it isn't needed and I must admit I agreed at first, but the more I think about it, it seems like a good idea to release this in two parts. The book itself is not very long and it could be put into one long film. But a lot happens in the book so it would be very easy to make two interesting films at average length. For those of you that don't know when the Hobbit was first announced rumours of Leonard Nimoy to do the voice of Smaug was all over the place. These rumours were untrue and it is now known that Benedict Cumberbatch  is to be doing the voice of Smaug and the Necromancer. Which I think that either would do the role justice ( tell me what you think. Which do you think would be better for the part?) Also Andy Serkis is to play the role of Gollum for both parts, after rumours of someone else taking his place after the first part. Hopefully Peter Jackson will do this awesome book justice when turning it into the film. And I encourage people to go and see this prequel to Lord of the Ring. If you liked them then you will like this too. It is released 13th December in the UK. Just to remind people the First half The Unexpected Journey is released on the 14th December this Year.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this and I hope I have given you some ideas about what to see, Please comment about the ones like the sound of.

Up Coming Movies Of 2013!

Hey so I have been looking up the upcoming films of next Year, and I must say I am very disappointed. Out of a entire Year of films waiting to be released, there are only a very small hand full of films that are not sequels, prequels and yet more remakes of perfectly good films. I don't know what is going on in the Movie industry but they are really starting to take the biscuit! I mean for example here are a few of the upcoming movies to look forward to......

Scary Movie 5
Hangover 3
Fast and Furious 6
Evil Dead
Thor 2
Bad Santa 2
Iron man 3
Terminator 6
Dirty Dancing
ect ect ect....

I mean God, yes most of these movies where good when they first came out, but do they really have to keep bringing out sequel after sequel after sequel!! It is almost like they are either completely running out of ideas or they are just getting plain lazy. I don't know about you but if they keep going on like this then I am going to start running out of faith in the industry altogether, as i am already getting sick and tired of the whole sequel thing. Don't even get me started on remakes. If it was good the first time don't ruin it by remaking an already good film for example Clash of the Titans  and Tron were both disappointing so Why? keep doing it.

Now I know that there are two movies on that list which are only whatever the name 2. But if you look at it did these films really need a sequel. I mean if they were not going to exists would we really care. Would someone out there be complaining to the industry demanding these sequels. Just leave a movie alone for God's sake, they were good and then you go and ruin them!!! I am just hoping that they will sort themselves out, because thinking of a future of more sequels and remakes makes me feel really sad.

Anyway now my rant is over, I think it is time I tell you about the Movie that is coming out that might be worth a watch.

WORLD WAR Z

For those of you that don't know World War Z is a book written by Max Brooks. Is is about a guy that has to go around the world trying to stop a zombie pandemic. The book is written in diary form of the main characters individual accounts and according to the director, Marc Forster the film is going to be sticking as must as possible to the book. So for those of you out there that have read the book and loved it as must as me, get to the cinema 21st JUNE 2013. For those of you that haven't read the book but love zombies movies or horror movies go and see it. Because if it is sticking to the book it might just be one of the best zombie films for a long time.

Has Kevin Smith grown up??

I am sure most of you out there are familiar with Kevin Smith's Dogma, and know it for it's Buddy Christ, shit demons, fart jokes and of course Jay and Silent Bob. But even with all these, still has very clever concepts to wrap your head around. Without saying, Dogma is a very clever and a visually pleasing film that keeps the audience interested. But you can't help and admit it has childish tones of humour to it (some would say cheap laughs.) But then 12 Years later....Kevin Smith brought to our cinema's Red State, his new take on a religiously based film. For those of you that don't know the plot to Red State here it is very briefly, 3 boys set out to have sex with an older women one of them spoke to on the internet. Although things don't go to plan when she turns out to be part of a extreme, Christian- hate Cult. This is (As far as I know) Kevin Smith's first ever film that for one isn't based in New Jersey and is an Action, Horror. I my opinion he pulls it off, it keeps you in suspense through out, it has twists, lots of guns and some blood. This film is dark, action packed ( something he swore he wasn't good at hence turning down Directing Green Hornet.) and has no over the top comedy. The actor's in it are well cast and do a really good job, minus the lead played by Kyle Gallner which you may recognised from films such as the new Nightmare on Elm Street and Jennifer's Body. His performance was very bland and inexpressive, he just wasn't believable considering the situation he is in. But apart from that the film was in my opinion one of Kevin Smith's best movies in a long time. Although I miss the stupid jokes and of course Jay and Silent Bob, which everyone are so used to seeing in a movie by Kevin Smith, it is a nice change to see him been more grown up with his projects and trying out new genre's besides romance and comedy. I will be looking forward to seeing him working with new actor's and actresses and coming up with new concepts in the future. So I think it is safe to say, I think that for now Kevin Smith has officially grown up and is looking for new directions. But that is not to say they he wont go back to the things that he used to do.
